Arizona Retirees Cheer House Action to Lower the Price of Health Care, Prescription Drugs, and Create Good Paying Jobs

Saundra Cole, President of the Arizona Alliance for Retired Americans, issued the following statement regarding the U.S. House passage of the Build Back Better Act:

(Phoenix) — “House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Reps. Gallego, Grijalva, Kirkpatrick, O’Halleran and Stanton deserve our thanks for the tremendous effort it took to reach a compromise on this historic bill.

“The Build Back Better Act will lower prescription drug prices, tax the rich and corporations, make healthcare more affordable and accessible for millions of Americans.

“It will also significantly help Arizona families by providing four weeks of paid family and medical leave, and allow Arizonans who need long-term care to get the services and support they need at home, rather than an institution.

“The Build Back Better Act is popular with the public because they know it will improve millions of lives, reshape the economy and finally enable many more people to have a fair shot at prosperity, security and mobility. This legislation, if passed by the Senate, will take our country in a better direction by stopping unfair tax breaks for the rich and corporations, making drug corporations negotiate prices for the first time, and ensuring that everyone has access to the basics, from affordable premiums and medicines to jobs that pay a decent wage and investments in a cleaner and safer environment.

“Now, it’s up to the Senate to pass the Build Back Better bill so that President Biden can sign it into law and Democrats can deliver on their promises to millions of Americans by supporting a budget that makes investments to improve health care, lower prescription drug prices, cut pollution, create jobs, and boost Arizona’s economy.”
